Pancakarma is Ayurveda’s unique system of cleansing accumulated toxins usually formed by components of undigested or improperly formed food, mental and emotional imprints over time.
“Pancha” refers to the five methods of eliminating these toxins from the body, mind and emotions which are: vamana (emesis), virecana (purgation), basti (enema), nasya (evacuation via the nose), raktamoksana (blood letting). The aim of Pancakarma is to pacify the vitiated dosa and bring back the body and mind to normalcy and equilibrium, which results from a deep detox of the gastro-intestinal track and detox of deep tissues of both body and mind.
Pancakarma is accompanied by two other procedures: one a preparatory procedure called Purvakama (which includes improving digestion, oleation and sudation) and the other a post therapy regime called Pascatkarma, which includes rebalancing digestion, rejuvenation and pacifying the body post treatment. Depending on the strength of the client, condition to be treated, stage of the disease and time of year, a specific customised treatment plan will be recommended. In addition to the treatments and herbs, it is recommended that clients have a complete rest and break from their daily routine and duties to maximise the effect of the procedure. For this purpose, Saneepa offers seven to ten day Pancakarma retreats at its secluded villa in Italy - Casa Saneepa, which is nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains in the region of Le Marche, Italy. A limited number of retreats are offered each year and therefore it is advisable to indicate one’s interest well in advance.
