Pancakarma is Ayurveda's unique system of cleansing accumulated toxins usually formed by components of undigested or improperly formed food, mental and emotional imprints over time. Depending on the needs and strength of the client a combination of warming oil massage called Abhyanga, pouring of warm oil on the forehead called Shirodhara, warm massage using bolus with special herbs called Pindasweda, steam bath, purgation (virechana) enemas (basti), special cleaning diet and herbs are some of the components of that may be included in a customised panchkarma treatment plan.
The Iyengar Yoga retreats will generally have a taught asana class a day as well as opportunity for self practice in the studio at designated times. Further there will be either a pranayama class or discussions on Yoga and Ayurveda philosophy in the late afternoon early evening.
Both Ayurveda and Yoga retreats will have ample treatment time and lead classes however there will be purposive free time that is specifically designed to give retreat client's the opportunity to completely break from everyday habits so that a complete break from the 'usual' can be achieve giving the space in one's life for transformational change including establishing new patterns of behaviour, diet and lifestyle.
